Kochi: Gold rods seized from three passengers at airport

Kochi, Kerala: Airport customs officials seized gold in the form of rods weighing 1.922 kg and valued at Rs 55.85 lakh from three air passengers, who arrived in Kochi, Kerala from Dubai today.

The passengers - Yasar Arafath, Abdul Gafoor and Ahamad Shabil - hailing from Kasaragod district in Kerala, had concealed the rods inside the aluminium beadings of their trolley bags.

The quantity of gold seized from Arafath was 641 gms, while 641 gms was seized from Gafoor, and 640 gms from Shabil.

The seizure was made by a team of officers led by S A S Navaz, Deputy Commissioner of Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Abilash K Sreenivasan, Deputy Commissioner of Customs.
