Bangalore: Days after a case of alleged rape and cheating was filed against Karthik, son of Union Railways Minister Sadananda Gowda, by a Kannada actress, a fresh controversy has landed at the senior BJP leader's doorstep.

The BJP has alleged that the Congress government in the state headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered illegal tapping of phones belonging to Mr Gowda and that of his brother during the time period of September 5 to 11, when Karthik had gone absconding.

"This is the issue of my son and right from day one, I have been saying I would not react to this," said Mr Gowda. "It may hamper the investigation. As a responsible person of the central cabinet, I should not behave in a matter as putting pressure. I am not going to comment about it."

While the BJP is demanding a high-level probe into the matter, the Congress government calls it the BJP's imagination.

"I am not aware of it. It has not been brought to my notice. So far nothing has come to my notice, if needed and if happened it would have come to my notice. So i don't know what you are talking about," said KJ George, Home Minister of Karnataka.

The police in Karnataka comes directly under the Home Ministry, but Chief Minister Siddaramiah has retained the Intelligence wing under his portfolio.

Karthik Gowda is out on anticipatory bail preempting arrest after a Kannada actress claiming to be his wife filed a case of rape, abduction and cheating. Her claim came on the day Karthik got engaged to another woman in August.
