Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said in Visakhapatnam yesterday that the government wants to establish the state as knowledge hub by bringing reforms in education sector.
Addressing students and teachers at the state-level Inspire Science Exhibition-II held at a city school, Mr Rao said the state government was committed to provide quality education by bringing reforms and its main idea is to make the state as the knowledge hub.
The state government has allocated Rs 16,000 crores for education in budget for the current year, he said.
Based on the good response to the e-learning programme, launched at a school here, the minister said that the government is planning to introduce it in schools across all the 13 districts in the state.
He said a bio-metric system will be introduced in government schools for monitoring of mid-day meals scheme, higher transparency and punctuality of teachers.
Union government, with a view to boost the scientific aptitude among pupils, has introduced the Inspire programme with a cost of Rs 1,979 crores in 2008, Mr Rao added.
As many as 506 students from Srikakulaam, Vizianagaram, Visakhpatnam, East and West Godavari and Krishna districts took part in the three-day exhibition.
