Hyderabad: Doctors at a hospital in Hyderabad on Saturday forcibly administered intravenous fluids to YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was on indefinite fast for seven days to oppose the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

On a direction from Chanchalguda prison officials, doctors at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) forcibly gave intravenous (IV) fluids to Mr Reddy as his condition was deteriorating, a hospital official said.

Mr Reddy was shifted late on Friday night to NIMS for better treatment but he had refused to end the fast.

His wife Bharati was by his side when the doctors administered IV fluids to him. She reached hospital after the CBI court permitted her to stay with him daily from 8 am to 4 pm.

A team of eight doctors is monitoring the condition of the young leader, who is in judicial custody since May last year in a disproportionate assets case. He may have to remain in hospital for two to three days.

The doctors had warned that his condition may further deteriorate if he continued his fast.

On Friday night, his mother YS Vijayamma, his wife and his brother-in-law Anil Kumar were denied a personal visit.

The MP was only drinking water since he began his fast in Chanchalguda jail on Sunday. He was shifted to Osmania Hospital on Thursday night.

Ms Vijayamma, who is also honorary president of the YSR Congress, and other party leaders had yesterday appealed to him to call off the hunger strike.
