Delhi gang-rape: Rallies across Andhra Pradesh for demand justice

HyderabadStrongly condemning the gang-rape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in New Delhi and demanding stern action against the culprits, women and student groups today organised rallies across Andhra Pradesh.

In the state capital, students, NGOs and women organisations like DYFI and AIDWA took out a protest rally and marched towards Raj Bhavan.

As they reached Khairtabad Chowrasta, police prevented them from proceeding ahead. Over 100 protesters, including women, were taken into preventive custody, police said.

Earlier, the protesters alleged that the state government has failed to set up a state women commission and fast-track courts to deal with crime against women.

According to reports reaching here, protest rallies were also organised in Warangal, Adilabad, Srikakulam, Krishna and Prakasham districts, among others.

Addressing a gathering in Ongole in the Prakasham district, CPI State K Secretary Narayana demanded severe punishment for those involved in the brutal sexual assault on the young girl in Delhi.
