Chennai Police Sets Deadline for Installing CCTVs in Omnibuses

Chennai: Continuing its crackdown on various agencies to ensure maintenance of law and order in the city, police today set a deadline of January 10 2015 for omnibuses to install CCTVs.

After a meeting with over 50 omnibus operators in Chennai, Police in a statement laid down the requirements for omnibus operators, one of which requires them to install CCTVs before January 10.

Other conditions are to remove dark films on windshields immediately, ensure that drivers are hired with a clean service history and are not drunk while on duty.

"If the driver is drunk during duty and ends up in an accident, the owner should take full responsibility. Owners should cross check personal details of the new employee with police," it said.

All drivers have to be given identity cards with photographs, it added.

Police have been laying down requirements for different agencies and associations to ensure that the law and order is maintained well in the state and clues are obtained in case of a crime.

Police had earlier laid down some rules for call taxi operators, especially those ferrying single women, and also for lodge owners in Chennai.
