Baby Gets Special Team of Chennai Doctors for Mysterious Burns 'Condition'

Chennai: A special team of doctors in Chennai are monitoring a baby boy who they say has a rare medical condition which they describe as "Spontaneous Human Combustion Syndrome."

The seven-day-old baby was admitted to the city's renowned Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital  (KMC) on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan told reporters that the baby's  medical condition causes mysterious burns on his body, but did not elaborate on how or why.

"We have done a study and are investigating on how burns occur. We are closely monitoring the baby and a special team headed by me has been formed", said Dr Guansekaran, a senior doctor supervising the case.

The child's older brother was diagnosed with the same condition in 2013 and was also brought to KMC Hospital.

The child has a burn injury on his leg. We are planning to give treatment to the baby's mother as well", the Health Secretary told reporters. "We have set up facilities that can closely monitor the child", he said.
