Andhra Pradesh by-elections: 84 nominations rejected after scrutiny

HyderabadAs many as 84 nominations, out of the total 365 filed for the June 12 by-elections to one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, were rejected after scrutiny on Saturday.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal told newsmen on Saturday evening that six out of 19 nominations filed for Nellore Lok Sabha constituency had been rejected after scrutiny.

In respect of 18 Assembly constituencies, 78 nominations were rejected and 268 were accepted. The largest number of 14 nominations were rejected in Parakal in Warangal district.

The CEO said Rs 23.50 crore in unaccounted for cash was seized during regular searches at special check posts in the 12 districts, where by-elections were due. Also, 1.35 lakh litres of illicit liquor was seized and 9,154 cases were booked in this regard, Mr Lal added.
