The Queen is looking to hire a cleaner to remove sticky chewing gum left by visitors to royal residences.
An official advert for the 16,000 pound per year job says the successful applicant should "arrange for the removal of chewing gum from the Historic and State Apartments". The post is listed on the British Monarchy website and would reportedly be split between Buckingham Palace and Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
"It is extraordinary that guests to the Royal Palaces do leave chewing gum. You wouldn't expect people to be chewing gum when they visit, let alone stick it on the priceless antiques of parquet floor," The Sun newspaper quoted a royal source as saying.
The 20-hour a week job would also require the employee to change beds and clean out wardrobes and drawers at royal residences. They must also man the cloakroom during plush evening parties.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "A tiny minority of individuals leave chewing gum at the Royal Palaces and it has to be removed."
