No, really. Glue your jaws shut NOW before pictures from this record-breaking climb up Yosemite National Park's formidable El Capitan rock-face unhinges them permanently.

Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson spent nearly three weeks painstakingly moving up the 900-metre high Dawn Wall of El Capitan, considered one of the toughest rocks for climbing. These photos from their extreme journey will take your breath away.

If all of this wasn't nail-biting enough, the duo also happen to be free climbers who use only their hands and feet to scale the distance, without depending on mechanical aids.


The only additional gear free climbers use are their safety ropes. Can you even imagine crawling up sheer cliff with nothing to help but your own limbs? The pictures from their climb, have been documented in inspiring detail by photographers Cory Rich, Jeff Johnson and Bligh Gillies, as well as the local media.

These beautiful pictures of the Dawn Wall backlit by a brilliant sun with two minuscule figures inching their way up to a record: these will give you goose bumps. But even better are the night shots, with the moonlight racing Tommy and Kevin against time.
