As a nation where too many go hungry too often, we often claim to respect food. But do we really? Do you regularly throw away leftover food? Do you order excess food at restaurants without a care for those who do not know, and may never know, what restaurant food tastes like? Of course you do. So do thousands of others in a nation who has earned the nickname, 'hunger capital of the world.'

This video, made and shared on its YouTube channel by Old Delhi Films, reminds one how food that would otherwise be wasted can be put to use: give it to those who need it. While the video could perhaps have been presented in a better manner, it carries a very important message and deserves to be watched for that.

The number of people living below the poverty line and dying of hunger may be just statistics to some of us, but for the homeless man on the road, it's the story of his life. So the next time you want to throw away that parantha in your tiffin because its homemade and you'd rather eat fast food, don't. Pass it on.

The video also lists these organisations who can help distribute leftover or excessive food on your behalf:

1. India Food Banking Network- http://www.indiafoodbanking.org
2. Samarpan Foundation- http://www.samarpanfoundation.org
3. Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses - http://www.spym.org
4. Mera Parivar -Contact: They do not have a website, but they can be contacted on this number: 0124 411 1787
5. BHOOKH - http://www.bhookh.com
