A Magical Popstar: JK Rowling Gives Potter Fans Another Reason to Cheer

"They were all supposed to be listening to a Christmas broadcast by Mrs Weasley's favorite singer, Celestina Warbeck, whose voice was warbling out of the large wooden wireless set. Fleur, who seemed to find Celestina very dull, was talking so loudly in the corner that a scowling Mrs. Weasley kept pointing her wand at the volume control, so that Celestina grew louder and louder."

- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

For those of you who've been gobbling up Harry Potter books and trivia like it's manna from heaven, this scene, with its crackling, humorous tension won't be difficult to recall. Here's a snippet if you don't:

"Celestina ended her song on a very long, high-pitched note and loud applause issued out of the wireless, in which Mrs Weasley joined enthusiastically.
"Eez eet over?" said Fleur loudly. "Thank goodness, what an 'orribbe --"
"Shall we have a nightcap, then?" asked Mr Weasley loudly, leaping to his feet. "Who wants eggnog?"

This was where JK Rowling first introduced us to this singing sensation of the secret magical world and thanks to her often unforgettable lyrics, Celestina has been a memorable presence. Seven years after the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released, JKR's decided to tell us more about Celestina (on her birthday) with a story, Floo Powder and a song on her fansite, pottermore.com.

Okay, then. We don't mind. Anything do to with anyone from Harry Potter is more than fine by us. This is what pottermore/insider tells us about Celestina:

She was born on August 18; owns a flexible, 10 and a 1/2 inch long Larch and phoenix feather wand; belonged to Gryffindor (yay!); is capable of singing so loudly as to drown the chorus of her backup singers - the banshees; she can tap-dance; likes baking; and had a wizard father and a Muggle mother. She married three times, and has a son from one of the marriages, has eight houses, travels with an entourage (and in great style) and happens to breed 'rough-coated crups' (wizard-bred dogs).

This has been a good year for Potter fans, and clearly, JK Rowling cannot let go of this magical world. Well, neither can we, so just come back already, JKR!

For those planning to visit the recently opened Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando Resort, please note that Celestina performs live shows every evening. For the rest, just enjoy this online version. Presenting, You Stole My Cauldron But You Can't Have My Heart:
