The government has named Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. He will replace Vinod Rai whose term comes to an end on Thursday, May 23.

Sanjay Dutt goes to jail: It is now endgame for Sanjay Dutt in the 20-year-long saga that saw him charged with illegal arms possession in the 1993 Bombay blasts. The actor surrendered in a TADA court in Mumbai and spent the night in the Arthur Road jail. He will be moved to Pune's Yerawada Jail to begin the 42 months left of the five-year jail term he was handed by the Supreme Court.
