Bangalore: Two members of a gang of dacoits were shot when police fired at them when they tried to escape at Hennur area in the city.

Police said two beat constables had questioned a five-member gang last night on suspicion, following which they hurled stones at them and fled.

The constables immediately alerted the police inspector, who reached the spot.

The gang also attacked the police team, in which at least four personnel were injured, police said.

The police inspector opened fire in self defence, injuring two of the gang members, but three managed to flee, police said.

The injured dacoits admitted they had committed a robbery in Malleswaram area in the city after threatening the inmates of a house and looted valuables worth Rs 10 lakh, police said.
