Jind (Haryana): A youth in the Jind district of Haryana was killed for marrying the girl he loved. The panchayat is the prime suspect, as it had threatened to kill the couple.
The panchayat had threatened on the preposterous claim that since they were from neighbouring villages, they were brother and sister, and had therefore brought dishonour to the families and the community.
The girl's parents brought her back but the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered that the couple should be reunited. But when the youth went to the girl's village to bring her back, he and the policeman accompanying him were beaten.
The young man succumbed to injuries. A case has been registered against unknown people in this regard.
"We got the information that the boy accompanying the warrant officer was killed by locals. A police team is present in the village to investigate whether the boy was actually killed. The body will be brought back as well," said B Satish, Superintendent of Police, Jind.
