Vintage car club organises rally to raise money for drought in Maharashtra

Mumbai: The Vintage & Classic Car Club of India (VCCCI) has organised an exhibition of vintage and classic cars at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai. The money raised through this exhibition will be donated to the Chief Minister's Drought Relief Fund. The exhibition is also a treat for all auto enthusiasts.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan visited the exhibition on Friday evening at the race course. This exhibition is open to the public till Sunday and children will be given free entry.  VCCCI President Nitin G Dossa told NDTV, "We had organised an exhibition of vintage cars in Mumbai when the rest of the Maharashtra was suffering from the drought the last time around. The entry fee at that time was Rs. 20. This time the entry fee is Rs.100 and the entire proceeds will go to the Chief Minister's drought relief fund without deducting any expense."

After visiting the exhibition, Mr Chavan told NDTV, "Corporate India is playing a role in drought relief. I have received a lot of donations into the Chief Minister's relief fund. I think the corporate sector independently is contributing directly. More importantly, we want corporate India and the affluent classes to feel connected with the misery that parts of Maharashtra are facing."

Among the attractions at the exhibition are Rolls Royces, Fiats, Chevrolets and Chryslers. A 1919 Minerva Type NN, 1933 Phaeton Hudson 7-seater open tourer, the Maharana of Kutch's 1931 Chrysler Hudson, 1933 Studebaker Commander Convertible, 1903 Hummerttee Humber, the Pontiac Fire Bird Convertible, the 1915 model T Ford and 1911 Triumph are also on display

There are also around 20 motorbikes on display.

The VCCC members also discussed with the Chief Minister the proposal to set up a permanent museum for vintage and classic cars in Mumbai.
