New Delhi:
The woman journalist, who has accused Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal of sexually assaulting her, has said she is ready to cooperate with the Goa Police in their investigation.
The journalist also said that she will not obstruct the police process in any way.
Sources in the Goa Police say that the police looking at the option of arresting Mr Tejpal. They said that a letter of apology emailed by Mr Tejpal to the young journalist he allegedly sexually assaulted, had given them new evidence.
Sources also say that cops are likely to arrest Mr Tejpal before the woman gives a statement to the magistrate, which is expected to happen next week.
In an email dated November 19, Mr Tejpal had purportedly written to the journalist admitting a "shameful lapse of judgement that led me to attempt a sexual liaison with you on two occasions on 7 November and 8 November 2013, despite your clear reluctance that you did not want such attention from me."
NDTV has accessed that email, which offers the recipient an "unconditional" apology and also says, "I know you feel I used my position as Editor, Tehelka to force my attention on you... I acknowledge that I did at one point say to your contention that I was your boss, 'That makes it simpler'...But I retracted them saying "I withdraw that straight away - no relationship of mine has anything at all, ever, to do with that."
Among the charges Mr Tejpal faces is rape by a person in a position of authority over the woman. It carries a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.
