Stars run with Delhi at the Half Marathon

New Delhi: There's a nip in the air and Delhi is settling into winter. And on such a morning, especially on a weekend, it's not the done thing to be up and running for most of us.

But the annual Airtel Delhi Half Marathon had thousands up and running on Sunday, many for a cause. Over 8,500 people - including Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan and actor Rahul Bose ran at the event.

Olympian Deriba Merga of Ethiopia won the half marathon in the men's category, despite stiff competition from last year's runner-up Wilson Kipsang of Kenya and reigning South African national champion Stephen Mokoko. This is the second time Merga has won the half marathon. He has said earlier that he would exploit his familiarity of the track to defend his title.

Kenya's Marry Keitany won Among women defeating last year's winner Mergia Aselefech of Ethiopia.

The event has grown in terms of participation as well as popularity in the last five years. The prize money offered was USD 2,10,000, with the men and women winners bagging USD 25,000 each.
