Six municipalities in West Bengal go to polls today

Around six lakh people in West Bengal are casting their vote today in elections to six municipal bodies across the state. It is the first local poll after the Trinamool Congress was swept to power in the state last year.

The six municipal bodies going to the polls are Dhupguri, Durgapur, Haldia, Panskura, Coopers Camp and Nalhati.

Unlike in assembly polls last year, alliance partners Trinamool and Congress are fighting these elections separately.

In 2007, the Left had won in three of these municipalities, while the Congress had won in two and the Congress-Trinamool alliance in one.
