Security Beefed Up Ahead of Diwali Celebrations in Jammu

Jammu: In view of repeated ceasefire violations from across the border, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Jammu region ahead of Diwali celebrations.

"Adequate police personnel have been deployed at the known infiltration routes. Police check posts have also been established at all the vulnerable routes where anti-national elements could try to infiltrate," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Uttam Chand said.

"Nothing has been left on chance as elaborate security arrangements have been kept in place in the city in view of the Diwali celebrations," another senior police officer said.

Mr Chand said "additional police force has been deployed at all the places where we expect large gathering of people. Tight vigil is also in place in the areas where people would be celebrating the festival of lights".

Security arrangements have also been beefed up outside the famous Raghunath Temple in Jammu city.

Meanwhile, Jammu is fully decked up ahead of the celebrations of the festival of lights as the residents thronged various markets in the city on Wednesday to purchase crackers and other items for the celebration of the festival.

Many Jammu residents have expressed their solidarity with the border residents who were rendered homeless with the recent ceasefire violations from across the border.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Srinagar today as a gesture of solidarity towards the victims of the recent floods in the state.
