Rohtak's Apna Ghar Case: Panchkula CBI Court Frames Charges

Apna Ghar inmates were allegedly subjected to sexual abuse, physical and mental exploitation

Panchkula: A CBI court has framed charges against all 10 accused in a case related to Rohtak's 'Apna Ghar' shelter home.

The case had hit national headlines after a team from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) rescued nearly 120 people, including children and women, from the house after carrying out a surprise raid in May, 2012. Inmates of the shelter home were allegedly subjected to sexual abuse, physical and mental exploitation and used as bonded labour.

CBI officials had filed a chargesheet in August 2012 against 10 accused including Jaswanti Devi, head of the now-sealed Apna Ghar.  Jaswanti Devi was an influential and well-connected person with links among political and police brass. She will face trial for rape, gang-rape, immoral trafficking, hurt, grievous hurt, molestation, causing abortion without woman's consent, unlawful compulsory labour and treating children with cruelty.

Co accused and Jaswanti Devi's son-in-law Jai Bhgwan will face trial for rape, gang-rape, molestation, immoral trafficking act, causing miscarriage without getting consent, unlawful compulsory labour and for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

While her brother Jaswant Singh will face trail for rape, voluntarily causing hurt, unlawful compulsory labour, molestation, criminal intimidation and grievous hurt.

Charges have also been framed against seven others including Jaswanti Devi's daughter and the then child development project officer of Rohtak. The CBI court has fixed November 10 as the date for the trial to commence.
