New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to interact with millions of school students across the country on Teacher's Day, September 5.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) is finalizing the plan, but those in the know said the Prime Minister will address students at the Maneckshaw Auditorium at the Delhi Cantonment that will be beamed live across the country.

"The National Informatics Centre will webcast the programme and Doordarshan will telecast it live. We have asked all schools, government and private, to participate," said a senior HRD official.

The programme is expected to start at 3 pm and is likely to go on for almost two hours. A day earlier, on September 4, the Prime Minister will also honour teachers who are this year's recipients of the national award for teachers.

The ministry has also started an essay-writing competition where students can write about their favourite teacher. And to celebrate the spirit of teaching, the ministry is calling this Gurutsov.

"The overarching theme is to bring back respect to teaching," said the HRD official.
