New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today saluted the unparalleled accomplishments of the girl child on National Girl Child Day.

"On National Girl Child Day, I salute the unparalleled accomplishments of the girl child. Their role in nation building is paramount," PM Modi tweeted.

"Let us affirm to end discrimination against the girl child and ensure our daughters get equal opportunities to shine," he added.

Since 2008, the government has celebrated the National Girl Child Day on January 24 every year across India to raise awareness and consciousness of the society with regard to the girl child.

Modi had on Thursday launched the nationwide "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao" (Save girl child and educate her) campaign from Panipat, in Haryana and flagged off 72 campaign vehicles that would help make people aware about the need to save the girl child in areas where the sex ratio is skewed.
