Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reached out to opposition parties and hoped for a "result-oriented and fruitful" winter session of Parliament, stating that all MPs are responsible for running the nation.
"The people have given us the responsibility of running the government but all MPs have the responsibility of running the country," the PM said to reporters on his way into Parliament.
"In this cold weather and with a cool mind, we have to do a lot of work," he added.
Mr Modi also said that he hopes the opposition will continue to play "a constructive role", commenting that the previous session went very well.
"In the last session, because of the opposition, a lot of work was done. I hope this time it will be the same," said the prime minister.
Parliament began a month-long winter session today, but both houses were adjourned for the day as a sign of respect for two senior parliamentarians who died including Congress leader Murli Deora.
The government hopes to push through key reforms in sectors including insurance, but the opposition is likely to protest most proposals. In the upper house or Rajya Sabha, the government is in a minority.
