PM Narendra Modi launches the Jan Dhan Yojana

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched his mammoth pet project, the Jan Dhan Yojana or People's Wealth scheme, which promises a bank account for every Indian household. His BJP-led NDA government completed 100 days in office on Tuesday.

Following are the highlights of his speech:


  • Those who won the prizes most of them are from non-Hindi speaking states and yet they named the scheme in Hindi
  • Insurance for 1.5 crore people is a record in itself
  • 77000 places holding simultaneous programmes, to take all chief ministers together it is a first for the Government of India
  • This is a pleasant and unique experience for the government
  • Even after 68 years of independence, 68 per cent of population not connected with banking
  • If we want to get rid of poverty we need to end financial untouchability
  • Many new branches will be opened, new jobs will be created. To take this scheme forward, new infrastructure will be set up
  • Post office infrastructure can be used in the banking sector 
  • This whole scheme is for the poor - an attempt to rid India of poverty
  • In any task once there is a breakthrough, it acquires a momentum of its own... (gadi apne aap chalne lagti hain)
  • These people are getting 'RuPay' Cards - shouldn't that have credibility like the visa card does.... When someone goes for dinner, do they not swipe their cards. The poor can also swipe cards and pay for services
  • For people who open accounts till January 26, there will be an additional life insurance of Rs 30,000
  • Ab mere Gareeb ke paas bhi debit card hoga. It will give them psychological strength.
