New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia today said the people of Delhi want them to form the new government in the national capital, but that a final decision will be taken only after they evaluate the results of an opinion poll.

AAP had launched an SMS poll on Tuesday, asking people to text Y or N on whether they should form government in Delhi. The poll will close on Sunday.

"People of Delhi want AAP to form government," Mr Sisodia, who won from the Patparganj constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections, said.

The Delhi elections threw up a hung verdict earlier this month; single largest party, BJP has said it does not have a majority and can't from government. AAP, which made a dazzling debut, coming in second with 28 seats, has now been invited by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to form government. It has sought time to think it over and has sought people's opinion.

The Congress, reduced to a humiliating eight seats in the 70-member assembly, has offered to support AAP to help it make up the numbers it needs for a majority. AAP needs exactly eight MPs more for a clear majority at 36.

"We may form government... we may not form a government. It depends on the outcome of the opinion poll," said Mr Sisodia.

He said his party had not sought the Congress' support. "It was their decision. They came to us and said they did not want a re-poll," he said.
