New Delhi: The Prime Minister has selected a new media advisor. Pankaj Pachauri leaves NDTV to join the Prime Minister's Office.

Harish Khare has resigned as Dr Manmohan Singh's media advisor.

The Prime Minister has been criticised for being inaccessible to the media. In the last year, his government hurtled from one crisis to another. In anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, middle class India found a voice for the over-whelming frustration with omnipresent graft. In June 2011, the PM finally picked five print editors for a brief interaction.

Last month, he spoke to Bloomberg about his government's disastrous handling of reforms in retail. His new policies had to be suspended after key ally Mamata Banerjee refused to support  new rules that would allow international super-chains like Walmart and Tesco to sell directly to Indian consumers.
