One Jawan Killed, One Injured as Kupwara Encounter Ends

One Indian Army jawan was killed and another injured in an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of north Kashmir today.

Kupwara: One Indian Army jawan was killed and another injured in an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of north Kashmir today. The encounter is over now.

Around three militants were believed to be fighting in the encounter, that took place near the Line of Control deep inside the forest areas of Lolab and Kalaroos. The injured soldier was taken to the Drugmulla Field Hospital.

The killed jawan, Chumman Jadav from the 28 Rashtriya Rifles, belonged to Chhattisgarh.

In a similar gunfight a week ago near the Kalaroos forest area in Kupwara district, four militants and one soldier had been killed.

Terming the continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC and International Border as "serious and provocative", India today said that it was "not very conducive" for bilateral ties.

"Incursions (ceasefire violations) at both the Line of Control and the International Border are serious and they are provocative...these incidents are creating an environment which is not very conducive for relationship between the two countries," Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said.
