Moderate temperatures were observed in most parts of north India today with heavy rainfall in remote areas across the region.
Around 40 villages in Uttar Pradesh were affected by light to moderate rain as rivers ran close to the danger mark at a few places. Mercury remained at normal levels in Delhi as the sun played hide and seek while humidity continued to remain on the higher side.
According to Meteorological department, the day temperature settled at 33.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum went down to 26.5 degrees Celsius.
The humidity levels, which fluctuated between 61 and 80 per cent, caused discomfort to people who ventured out. "There were traces of rainfall, too small to be measured, up to 8.30 am today", a weather official said, adding that no rain was recorded in the city later.
Ramganga, Sharda and Ghaghra rivers continued to play havoc due to rain in Uttrakhand and release of water from dams, according to the Central Water Commission report. In Sitapur, 40 villages in Behta, Biswan, Laharpur and Mahmoodabad were affected, the report said.
Cloudy conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana with maximum temperatures hovering below normal levels in the two states. Union Territory Chandigarh had a high of 32 degrees Celsius, weatherman said.
Among other places in Haryana, Ambala, Bhiwnai, Hisar and Narnaul recorded maximum at 32.4, 33.4, 34.5 and 32 degrees Celsius respectively. Karnal district, which received 0.8 mm rainfall, settled at 32.4 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded maximum at 33.4 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana and Patiala had high of 32.4 and 33.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of Rajasthan even as dry weather prevailed in north and northeastern parts of the state. Raniwara in Jalore district recorded the most showers at 15 cm followed by Reodar (Sirohi) 14 cm, Mount Abu 9 cm, Ramganjmandi 7 cm till morning today, the Met department said. Heavy rainfall was experienced at isolated places in Kota, Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions today, and till evening, Chittorgarh and Jodhpur received 18 mm and 0.4 mm rains respectively. Weather, however, remained mainly dry in Bikaner and Bharatpur divisions.
