No Respite From Heat in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh: Heat wave conditions today swept across Punjab and Haryana, with the mercury hovering several notches above normal in most parts of the two states.

According to the Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures remained above 40 degrees Celsius at several places.

Amritsar was the hottest place in both the states as it recorded a maximum of 43.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, it said.

Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab experienced hot weather conditions at 42.4 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius, rising by up to four notches above normal.

In Haryana, Hisar sizzled at 43.1 degrees Celsius, up by two notches above normal while Karnal, Narnaul, Bhiwani and Ambala settled at 41 degrees Celsius, 42 degrees Celsius, 41.6 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius respectively.

Union Territory Chandigarh had a high of 39.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

The MeT department, in a weather forecast, predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
