Chennai: The British government does not judge Indian political leaders and there is no ban on issuing visa to Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate, a British minister said in Chennai on Wednesday.

"We are not passing judgements on Indian political leaders. We made contact with him in Gujarat," Vince Cable, minister for business, innovation and skills, told reporters after inaugurating the GREAT British Festival.

The festival showcases some of the British companies operating in India and encourages business partnerships, including small and medium enterprises.

According to him, there is no ban on issuing British visa to Mr Modi as far as he knows.

The US has denied visa to Mr Modi for alleged human rights violations during the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
