Nepalese Army Chief to Visit India on Monday

New Delhi: Seeking to strengthen military ties, Nepal's Army General Gaurav Shumsher Rana will embark on a five-day visit to India starting Monday.

During his visit, Mr Rana, who is also the honorary General of the Indian Army, will review the passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun on June 14, Army officials said.

Besides his Indian counterpart Gen Bikram Singh, Gen Rana will also meet other top Indian civilian and military officials.

India-educated Gen Rana passed out of The Lawrence School, Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh, and has served in the Nepal Army for the last 39 years.

India and Nepal have strong military ties and India provides lot of military equipment to the Himalayan nation including assault rifles and military helicopters.

The Advance Light Helicopter Dhruv manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited was given to the Nepalese Army few years ago to bolster its surveillance capabilities.
