Major fire at a chemical factory in Thane

Thane: A major fire has broken out in an industrial unit in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area in Thane's Boisar, around 120 kms from Mumbai.

Plumes of smoke filled the area as the flames engulfed the entire chemical unit where the fire broke out. Fire tenders have been pressed into service but the blaze has not been brought under control so far.

The smoke and the flames could be spotted from a distance. Foam machines have also been sent to the spot to bring the fire under control.

Other factories in the area have been evacuated as a safety measure. Another chemical unit nearby, which is believed to have inflammable material, remains a fear as fire fighters are trying to prevent the blaze from spreading.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. No casualty has been reported yet.
