Madhya Pradesh train mishap: Loco pilot, assistant suspended

New Delhi: The Railways has suspended the loco pilot of a goods train and his assistant for alleged negligence in connection with a rail mishap in Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh.

According to senior railway officials, both of them were suspended because, prima facie, it appears that they overshot the signal.

The Railways is conducting an inquiry into the mishap, which took place at around 5 am when a goods train rammed into the stationary Indore-Gwalior inter-city Express.

The inquiry is being conducted by Commissioner of Railway Safety, Central Circle, Mumbai, Chetan Bakshi. He will submit the preliminary report within a fortnight.

According to officials, 19 bodies have been identified so far. Railways has already announced Rs five lakh as compensation to the kin of deceased, Rs one lakh to the seriously injured passengers and Rs 50,000 to passengers who sustained minor injuries.
