Left Front flays Trinamool for removing Siliguri police chief
Kolkata: West Bengal's Left Front on Tuesday lambasted the Trinamool Congress government for removing Siliguri Police Commissioner K Jayaraman, alleging it showed the regime did not want the truth to come out.

"They don't want the truth regarding the scam (Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority graft case) and those involved to be revealed. So, when probe reached midway, K Jayaraman was hurriedly removed," Left Front chairman Biman Bose told mediapersons in Kolkata.

Assailing the Mamata Banerjee-led state government, Mr Bose said since the country's independence, the state has never seen the scale of financial scams as were being witnessed now.

He also referred to the Saradha chit fund scandal, running into crores. Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh, now under arrest, has named top party leaders for their connection with the company and its promoter Sudipta Sen in a Facebook post and a video grab.

Mr Jayaraman was removed from his post on Saturday hours after he arrested Malda District Magistrate Godala Kiran Kumar, an accused in the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) graft case.

Mr Kumar allegedly siphoned off funds from the SJDA during his tenure as its chief executive officer. He was arrested under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act.

However, Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra charged Jayaraman with having exceeded his powers in arresting Mr Kumar.

Mr Kumar got bail on Sunday.
