Kumar Vishwas's Charges Add Twist to Delhi Government Formation

Kumar Vishwas talks to the press about his allegations

New Delhi: The ongoing drama over government formation in Delhi today took a new spin with Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas alleging that he had been approached by a first time BJP MP from Delhi in May this year to switch sides.

In return, Vishwas says that he was told that he could be considered for the CM's post. While AAP has in the past alleged that both the Congress and BJP have tried to break away its MLAs to their side, it is for the first time that the AAP has also virtually named those who have tried to poach from the AAP.

While Kumar Vishwas who spoke to the press refused to name the MP but gave enough hints to point to the BJP's north east Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari.

While Tiwari admitted to having been in touch with Vishwas, maintained that this was on a personal level and not about politics. "He is daydreaming , let him continue dreaming...we talk but not on politics" he added.

Delhi has had no elected government since Feb after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as CM claiming that it had become impossible to work with the Congress. The AAP had formed the government with outside support of the congress.

Reacting to the latest drama, Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said "AAP members never tell the truth, but on this matter if the BJP gives a clarification it will be better"

Following Kejriwal's resignation, Delhi has been under Presidents rule. The AAP has said that it was ready for fresh polls but it was up to the centre and the Lieutenant Governor to ask for polls.

The party has also petitioned the Supreme Court which has asked the Centre to reply by the first week of Sept on why Delhi should not get an elected government, even if it meant seeking fresh elections.
