New Delhi: Among those struggling today to contact people in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir, where all phone lines are down, was Akhilesh Yadav, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

He tweeted to Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, "I am trying to reach you, @abdullah_omar in this hour of need& support. Unable to reach you. My full support is with You'- @yadavakhilesh."

The UP chief minister also announced aid of Rs 20 crore for Jammu and Kashmir, where lakhs are still stranded and awaiting rescue and many have lost all that they owned in the worst floods to hit the state in 60 years.

Mr Yadav, 41, and Mr Abdullah, 44, are among the youngest chief ministers in the country. They have also been Lok Sabha MPs at the same time.

Other states have also reached out to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Maharashtra government has announced Rs.10 crore in aid and the Congress unit in the election bound state has chipped in with a consignment of 20 rubber and motorized fibre boats to help the flood relief operations.

Massive rescue operations are on in J&K, where four lakh people are still feared trapped. The floods have snapped the Valley's telecommunication links with the rest of the country. The state-run BSNL said it expects to restore services partially today.
