Models walk the ramp in Jammu

Jammu: It was a refreshing change for the violence hit Jammu and Kashmir state.

International models from Europe and Russia walked the ramp in Jammu displaying clothes and jewelry designed by local talent.

Forty local designers showcased their collections in the fashion show 'Arts And Crafts of Jammu and Kashmir.'

On display were not just local attire and jewelry but also works of local craftsmanship from all regions of the state including Kashmiri carpets and woodwork, Dogri gota work from Jammu and face masks from Ladakh.

Models walked the ramp carrying Kashmiri musical instruments like 'tumbak-nari' and Kangri- earthen fire pots used in the state for heating in the winters.

"It is a great opportunity, and we felt very good with international models, they responded so very well and we are happy", local designer Sherry Baba told NDTV.

"Jammu is so backward for these functions, but they are superb and qualified models wearing our designs", said Preeti, a student of fashion designing.

For many of the International models' coming to the state, renowned for its beauty, was the high point of the show.

"I heard a lot about Kashmir and it is a very nice place, very beautiful but it is shame we cannot go, we don't have time", said Dinisa, a model from Czechoslovakia.

Katrina, a model from Ukraine shared similar views, "I have heard a lot, it is one of the best places in India, and Kashmir has lot of mountains and nice rivers, so I would like to come for the holidays here"
