The debate over the new entrance format for the IITs is likely to rock the state education ministers meet to be held in the capital today. The meeting will be chaired by Human Resources and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal.
The issue of the Common Entrance Test or CET for admissions to under-graduate science and engineering programmes across the country will be reportedly discussed in the meeting. Few IITs and their faculty and alumni bodies have opposed the move, calling it a 'unilateral' decision by Mr Sibal. The alumni bodies have also threatened to take the HRD Minister to court over the issue.
In today's meeting, Mr Sibal would reportedly will try and get the state education ministers on board.
Education Ministers from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu will reportedly not attend today's meet.
The last meeting of the state education ministers was held on February 22 this year.
