New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor today hit out at BJP leader Subramanian Swamy who was quoted as saying that he knew who killed his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

"Who is he? If he knows the murderer let him tell the police," Mr Tharoor said today.

Mr Swamy responded by saying, "I never said I knew the murderer, I always said Tharoor knows who the murderer is."

Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi has told NDTV that Mr Tharoor could be questioned in the next few days.

Sunanda Pushkar, 52, was found dead a year ago in a five-star hotel in Delhi.

Earlier this month, a murder investigation was launched against "unknown persons" by the police, who say Ms Pushkar died of poisoning according to a medical report submitted in December.

In recent days, the police have questioned several people who were close to the couple; their domestic help, Narain Singh, was also interrogated for the third time.

In the first two sessions, the man was beaten by the police in an attempt to make him confess that he had killed Ms Puskhar along with Mr Tharoor, the politician had alleged in a letter written to the police chief in November. The lettter surfaced last week.

Mr Tharoor told reporters last week that he had written a second letter last week about the investigation to Mr Bassi.

Mr Bassi has refuted the allegations that his police force has made any attempt to frame Mr Tharoor.
