The NDA Government is committed to modernisation of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said on Sunday.
"Our Government is committed to support and modernise the Central Armed Police Forces in every possible way. The Government of India is committed to take whatever necessary steps are to be taken in this regard," he said.
The Minister was talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), the premier training institute of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Hakimpet in Hyderabad.
"It (CISF) is no more a force only to guard industrial units or installations of national importance. Today CISF has emerged as one of the premier security organisations which takes care of various facets and various aspects of our country - from airports to VIP security, covering important assets of our country, metro, space, atomic energy installations and other private sector units," he said.
"CISF is deployed in many terrorist and Naxal-affected areas, where its personnel are providing effective security to industrial undertakings and other ventures."
"As long as I am there in the Ministry of Home Affairs I will be sensitive to the concerns of the people in uniform.
It is because of the people in uniform we can think and work for the nation in a peaceful manner," the 42-year-old MP from Arunachal Pradesh, a first-time Minister, said.
Earlier, he addressed a gathering after reviewing the passing out parade of the 28th batch of Assistant Commandants, 40th of Sub-Inspectors and first batch of lady SIs at NISA.
Mr Rijiju praised the CISF, saying "the force is doing a commendable job in protecting the most vulnerable and critical assets of our country."
"With the changing security scenario of our country the responsibility assigned to CISF has increased manifold.
"Some inimical forces always tend to create an environment of insecurity and uncertainty, but I am happy to say that CISF has shouldered all these responsibilities with utmost effectiveness," the Minister said.
CISF Director General Arvind Ranjan also addressed the gathering on the occasion. A total of 39 Assistant Commandant and 596 SIs passed out of the academy after completing their basic training.
