For Thrashing Delhi Police Officer, Woman Arrested, Her Minor Son Detained

Delhi Police officer Amit Singh was attacked by a woman, her son and friend in a road rage case

New Delhi: A minor has been detained and his mother and her friend have been arrested for assaulting a Delhi Police officer on Thursday with rods, bats and stones after an accident.

Amit Singh, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was beaten and kicked multiple times near the Lodhi Road Crematorium, on one of Delhi's busiest roads.

Mr Singh's car reportedly hit a bike and its driver, a teenager, started a fight.

The biker was allegedly being followed in another car by his mother, who stopped when she saw the argument. She allegedly picked up a helmet and hit the officer first. Her male friend allegedly attacked him with a stone and then all three started thrashing Mr Singh.

The police say the officer is out of danger. The woman and her friend have been booked for attempt to murder.

Police sources say it is a road rage incident and they have not linked it to attacks on Delhi policemen recently, since Mr Singh was not in uniform and was not using his official car.

On Monday, a constable on patrolling duty was shot dead and another injured in an outer Delhi area when they stopped to question some men. Before that on Saturday, three men opened fire on two constables at Connaught Place in the heart of Delhi.
