Family of Pranesh Pillai, killed with Ishrat Jahan, wants CBI to summon Amit Shah
Ahmedabad: The family of Pranesh Pillai alias Javed Ghulam Sheikh, one of the four killed with Ishrat Jahan in the 2004 fake encounter case, has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to summon Narendra Modi's trusted aide and former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah in the case.

Addressing a press conference on behalf of Mr Pillai's family, senior lawyer Mukul Sinha today said the call data records (CDRs) of the accused policemen in the case establish that some calls were made to Mr Shah before and after the killing, indicating that he was aware of the conspiracy behind the encounter.

"Two conversations between Mr Shah and accused police officer D G Vanzara at 10.57 pm on June 14, 2004 and the other at 6.10 am on June 15 (the day of the encounter) indicate sufficient evidence to summon the former Home Minister. Additionally, there are 164 statements which indict Mr Shah,'' he said.

Mr Sinha further said that the CDRs, included by the CBI in its chargesheet submitted earlier this month, show that between June 1 and June 15, the main conspirators - Intelligence Bureau officer Rajinder Kumar and IPS officers P P Pandey and D G Vanzara - remained in touch with each other after the first fake input was created by Mr Kumar.

Mr Sinha claimed that Javed's CDR shows that on June 6 at 11.18 pm, he was called from a telephone booth in Gandhinagar when he was driving through Karnataka.

Earlier this week, two pen drives with conversations between Mr Shah and senior Gujarat Police officers - in which they allegedly discuss the investigations into the fake encounter killing of Ishrat Jahan - were submitted by the CBI to the Gujarat High Court.
