Don't Believe in Lies and Rumours, BJP President Amit Shah Tells Party Workers

New Delhi: He may have been over an hour late for the party's state executive meeting in Delhi, but it wasn't a day to complain. Amit Shah, BJP national President, had just been exempted from all charges in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati encounter cases by a special Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI court in Mumbai, and the party was already immersed in celebrations.

Without making any reference to the court verdict, he told BJP workers and office bearers, "Don't believe in lies and rumours. A lot has been said in the past too but the truth has prevailed."

The message, though, was clear. The BJP wants its party workers to work towards ensuring a clear majority when assembly elections are held in the state next year.

"Some question what the central government has delivered in six odd months. They have got a fitting reply from the people of India, through their votes," he said.

He was apparently referring to the BJP's remarkable run in the recent assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, where it has formed the government.

In the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the party staged its best ever performance and won 25 seats.

But Mr Shah also had a word of caution for party workers. "Don't think of the elections as a fight with this party or that one. Once the BJP fights its own complacency, nothing can stop us from winning. No one can defeat us. I know your strength and understand your dedication," he said.

Delhi is currently under President's Rule, after Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party resigned after his party spent 49 days in power with outside support from the Congress. The BJP, in spite of winning the highest number of seats in the elections held in December last year, didn't have the requisite numbers to form the government and chose to sit in the Opposition.

Though the Delhi assembly elections dates have still not been announced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address his first public rally in the capital on January 10, 2015.

Besides this, the party has already held nukkad sabhas or corner meetings in all 70 constituencies during the winter session of Parliament.

Mr Kejriwal and the AAP have also been canvassing aggressively in the capital in what is expected to be a pitched battle for Delhi between these two political parties.
