CWG corruption case: Charges against Suresh Kalmadi, others to be framed on February 4
New Delhi Charges against Suresh Kalmadi and others in a Commonwealth Games (CWG) corruption case would be framed on February 4, a Delhi court said on Thursday.

Mr Kalmadi was the chief of the 2010 CWG Organising Committee and was sacked for allegedly abusing his official position and causing a loss of over Rs 90 crore.

He and nine others, including former Organising Committee Secretary General Lalit Bhanot, are accused of illegally awarding a contract to install a Timing, Scoring and Results system for the Games to Swiss Timing at inflated rates.

They have been named by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its chargesheet.

On December 21 last year, the court had ordered framing of charges against them and fixed January 10 as the date. The court had said that the 10 accused should be charged with criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence, cheating, forgery, criminal intimidation and criminal misconduct by public servants.

Special CBI Judge Ravinder Kaur on Thursday deferred the framing of charges, saying she needs more time to go through the records of the case before passing any order.

Besides Mr Kalmadi and Mr Bhanot, the others named in the chargesheet are Organising Committee Director General V K Verma, Director General (Procurement) Surjit Lal, Joint Director General (Sports) A S V Prasad and Treasurer M Jayachandran. They are no more associated with the sporting body.
