Chhattisgarh Naxal attack: Congress leader VC Shukla critical, say doctors
New Delhi: Vidya Charan Shukla, former Union minister and Chhattisgarh Congressman, was operated upon at the Medanta Medicity Hospital in Gurgaon today. 

He is said to be stable but not out of danger yet and is being treated by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists.

The 84-year-old Congress leader has three bullet wounds in his abdomen and his lungs and liver are reportedly damaged after he was caught in an ambush by suspected Maoists on a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh last evening.

Twenty five people, including state party president Nand Kumar Patel, were massacred by suspected Maoists in that attack.

Mr Shukla was first taken from the site of the ambush in Jagdalpur to Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, before being flown in an air ambulance to Delhi this morning.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and veteran BJP leader LK Advani visited Mr Shukla in hospital. 

Mr Shukla belongs to an old Congress family, one of the famous Shukla brothers. His father was Ravi Shankar Shukla was the first Chief Minister of reorganised Madhya Pradesh.
