Centre rejects Karnataka Governor's recommendation for President's Rule

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has survived a floor test through a voice vote in the Assembly, bringing to an end, for the moment, days of political uncertainty in the state.

The Assembly session began today, with the Chief Minister deciding to use the opportunity to prove his majority.

He managed to get 199 votes in his favour with no votes against him, as the opposition Congress staged a walkout and the JD(S) boycotted the session.

"It is unfortunate that opposition parties are obstructing the conduct of session and constantly coming in the way of functioning of democratic institutions. They are obstructing functioning of Speaker. They cannot tolerate being out of power," he told reporters after the trust vote.

This is the session for which Governor HR Bhardwaj initially did not give permission while waiting for the Centre to respond to his recommendation for President's Rule. His recommendation was rejected on May 22.
