BRICS summit: Prime Minister meets Chinese President Xi Jinping

Durban: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday met Chinese President Xi Jinping in the first high-level contact between the two countries after the change of leadership in China.

The meeting took place during the summit of BRICS nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - that the two leaders attended.

The Chinese leader last week had warm words about the relationship with India and said he was looking forward to the meeting with Dr Singh. The informal meeting during the summit came ahead of their structured interaction.

Xi Jinping told the Prime Minister he was aware of Dr Singh's good relationship with his immediate predecessor Hu Jintao and would like to continue the relationship.
