Mumbai: The Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) that is probing irregularities in the purchase of bomb disposal suits has submitted its report to the Maharashtra Home Ministry. The agency has sought permission to register a case against the importer of the suits, Bimal Agarwal, a police officer of the rank of a DIG.

Mr Agarwal had bagged the tender to provide 83 bomb disposal suits for the Mumbai Police after the 26/11 terror attacks. Later, there were allegations that he provided sub-standard suits. A petition was moved in the Bombay High Court which had asked the ACB to probe the case.

The anti-corruption agency, in its report, has stated that Mr Agarwal, instead of importing the suits from the US, bought 36 pieces of the stipulated 82 from China.  The report also mentions that the bank guarantee shown by him was irregular.

The report also points out the role of a senior-ranking Home department official for alleged irregularity in the case.

The agency has sought permission to lodge an FIR for cheating and forgery against the two persons.

Meanwhile, PK Jain, the then Principle Secretary (Home) has got a clean chit with the ACB stating that he had no role in the case.
