New Delhi: A day after reports that senior leader Lal Krishna Advani retiring hinted that he won't continue as the Leader of Opposition for five years, former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu has said that Advani was elected for the post for five years.

"BJP is keen on having Advani's leadership and guidance," said Naidu.

However, the BJP leader further said that Advani was made the Leader of Opposition despite his reluctance.

Naidu also denied reports suggesting RSS had set a deadline for Advani.

On Thursday, BJP sources had said that Advani had reportedly conveyed to Sushma Swaraj that she would replace him as the Leader of Opposition.

The sources further said that BJP president Rajnath Singh also backed Sushma Swaraj as the next Leader of Opposition, adding that Singh would step down as the chief before his term ends, and plans to assist the next chief to take charge.
